Since its introduction, many tech geeks and EV owners have been trying to pick the best between the Gen 3 wall connector and Gen 2 high-powered wall connector. One noticeable difference between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 home charger is reducing the cable length from 24 feet to 18 feet.

However, Gen 2 wall connector remains the best home charger for Tesla. The Gen 2 home charger comes with a 24-foot thick and strong cable and can deliver up to 80 amps to the vehicle, while Gen 3 is limited to 48 amps. However, the Gen 2 connector can load-sharing with 4 connected units, sharing the same electric circuit charging simultaneously.

If you are installing a connector for the fastest charging, install a circuit breaker rated 100 amps. However, this power is not readily available in many homes or offices. Consequently, the High Power Wall Connector’s current setting can be adjusted or lowered for 40 to 100 amp breakers.

Your panel should be at least 200 amps of current to be effective. Meanwhile, you can always upgrade the panel if necessary, especially if it is below 200 amps of current. Consequently, you need to hire a qualified electrician to ensure that no code is breached in your home. Find the right qualified electrician for an electrical panel upgrade. Whether you want to install Gen 2 or Gen 3 Tesla Home Charger, an electrical panel of 200 amps of current is most suitable.

Tesla recommends charging your Tesla up to 50-90 percent regularly. Besides, you are advised to set your battery to everyday use. When you recharge your battery, it stops automatically once it reaches the maximum set. So, you can charge your Tesla every night to a hassle-free everyday use. When you unavoidably need extra range, you will need to charge the battery fully. There is no point in depleting the battery before recharging it. When charged regularly, the battery performs better. But if you are charging at a Tesla Supercharging station, your Tesla will charge faster because Tesla Supercharger charges up to 150KW, based on its version.
